How to Get to Brijuni from Pula

The easiest way to visit Brijuni National Park from Pula is to first travel to Fažana.

Fažana is only a short drive from Pula and is worth seeing in its own right. Its colourful waterfront, small harbour and relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere make it a lovely place for a walk before or after your trip.

During the busy summer season, it is sensible to check departure times and ticket availability in advance.

What Can You See on Veliki Brijun?

Once you arrive, you'll quickly notice that Brijuni isn't just another beach destination.

Veliki Brijun has a fascinating mixture of nature and history. Archaeological sites reveal traces of people who lived on the island centuries ago, including remains from Roman times.

The island is also known for its landscaped parks, Mediterranean vegetation and long avenues surrounded by greenery. One of the pleasures of visiting Brijuni is simply moving slowly through the landscape and enjoying how peaceful it feels compared with some of Istria's busier summer destinations.

Visit the Safari Park

One of the most unusual attractions on Veliki Brijun is its Safari Park.

The park is home to various animals and is particularly popular with families travelling with children. It adds something completely different to a day that might otherwise be focused mainly on history and nature.

If you're visiting Pula with younger travellers, this is often one of the highlights of the excursion.

Discover Brijuni's Fascinating History

Brijuni has an unusually rich past for such a small group of islands.

The archipelago contains archaeological remains from several historical periods, but it is also strongly connected with the more recent history of the former Yugoslavia.

Josip Broz Tito used Brijuni as a summer residence and welcomed numerous politicians, celebrities and international guests to the islands.

This combination of ancient archaeology and 20th-century history makes Brijuni quite different from many other attractions around Istria.
